The UK Transition: Republic of Ireland

The UK left the European Union on the 31st January 2020.

In November 2019, the UK and the EU reached a legally-binding agreement setting out the terms of the UK’s exit from the EU. This Withdrawal Agreement included a transition period which comes to an end in December 2020. This means that from 1st January 2021 there will be new rules in place for businesses and citizens.

Businesses, family and personal circumstances will be affected so we all need to make sure we are ready.

With this in mind, we would like to make all our customers in the Republic of Ireland aware that as from 1st January 2021, you as an EU customer of UFP will be the importer of record and will therefore assume responsibility for VAT, duty and clearance fees when your goods arrive at your border.

More information from the UK government on the transition period is available here.
